We hit an issue this week with Outlook 2016 crashing immediately on opening or when clicking attachments on certain PC’s. The message is pretty generic: ” Microsoft Outlook has stopped working – A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. “
After a bit of digging we discovered that the issue is caused by:
KB4011682 – security update for Outlook 2016: February 13, 2018
The normal suggestions of Office Repair, New Outlook profile etc. etc. do not correct the issue.
The solution was to remove KB4011682 from the PC (no reboot required) and the Outlook works perfectly again. Just thought I’d share this while we wait for a new build of this update to be released
NB. This issue affected PC’s where a Volume Licence version of Microsoft Office 2016 had been installed. We did not see any issues logged by users running Click-To-Run versions of Microsoft Office 2016.
